About the project
Our office was commissioned by the owner of the land, the MNÁMK Public Foundation, to design a new gymnasium for the existing primary school.
During the design process, in addition to functional compliance, the harmonious alignment with the existing building group was of paramount importance in the massing of the building.
The building has an overall footprint of 33.75 m x 27.25 m, with a 645 m2 fighting area, - a 210 m2 changing room and service block on two levels.
The gymnasium will be used by two classes at the same time, so the 28 m x 15 m fighting area can be divided in two by a curtain. The clear ceiling height is 7.30 m.
The service functions (changing rooms, referee's room, teachers' room, storage room, workshop, thermal centre) are located in a two-storey block on the west side of the building.
The building is supported on a slab foundation and its vertical support structure is a reinforced concrete pillar frame.
